“Long live to Freedom!”
Posted November 15th, 2007In cruelly oppressing all fresh ideas and reforms the aborigines of Mexico (the creoles) had no other alternative than to take extreme measures. The independence movement chited all over the state and became stronger than ever at the beginning of 19th century. The Spanish authorities must have understood that the unrest of Mexico grew far too large and that the insecurity of the Spanish control could no longer manage such disaffection. The creoles were jogged into a dead corner and pushed to only one choice - to uprise.
One of the most eradicative groupings was the so-called Literary and Social Club and it was the very place where the real spark of the liberty movement occurred. This society consisted of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, his friend Ignacio Allende, and one more member - Juan Aldama. They wanted to form a new junta but that plot was disclosed and they were to take prompt actions. at the late evening of the 15th of September 1810 Miguel Hidalgo ran to Dolores, pealed the cathedral bells, and invoked for revolution with the words: “Doom to the gachupines! Long live to Freedom and Our Saint Lady of Guadalupe!” and together with his Indian hoarding, he led all parts of the country, destroying all by him. Although this riot was in fact the beginning of the fight for liberty it had a modest possibility of success. The rebellion was extremely disorganized and incompetent; and Miguel himself had no authentic answer in mind. He did not want to achieve sovereignty from Spain; his main goal was to end the cruelty of the peninsulars. Miguel gained a little of Creole and mestizo countenance, the majority of creoles acceded to the peninsulars in fear of a national war. The same year Hidalgo was arrested and executed, but his heritage survived and what is more Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla had amended the route of history forever.

The Statue of David
Posted November 14th, 2007Michelangelo was a very talented sculptor. He knew human anatomy very well. Maybe that is the reason why his sculptures look so much alive. We may enjoy the proof of his extraordinary skills while looking at his famous ‘David’.
Portrayed not as a young boy, but as a courageous man, David is waiting for the battle. Michelangelo represented his David in the same manner as long time ago were depicted the Greek heroes. No doubt, the statue is a pure beauty. Let’s take a deeper look…
David’s features are deeply undercut, before that Michelangelo never used such kind of technique. The eyes are wide-opened and fiery. David’s torso is still half-developed. His legs are bony. Indisputably the observers’ attention is paid to the man’s knotty beautiful construction. Even if one doesn’t know the legend about David and Goliath and cannot imagine what kind of feelings David could have, he just needs to look at Michelangelo’s sculpture. Every vein shows the struggle of emotions inside David’s heart. Of course, he has some fear, but the idea that he fights for his people encourages him. David’s brain and astuteness would be his main weapons, and don’t hesitate, they would lead him to the victory.
That is Michelangelo’s patriotic concept. He stands against the brutal strength ruining the countries, destroying the civilization. It’s not enough for the painter or sculptor, or any other creative person just to be skilled, bringing no message with your art. Those who have the God-given talent should use it in a proper way and cultivate the good among the others.
