He did not want to achieve sovereignty from Spain; his main goal was to end the cruelty of the peninsulars. Miguel gained a little of Creole and mestizo countenance, the majority of creoles acceded to the peninsulars in fear of a national war. The same year Hidalgo was arrested and executed, but his heritage survived and what is more Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla had amended the route of history forever.

Many people know Michelangelo for his famous sculpture of David. The statue is a symbol of Florence. It is the symbol of human courage and will.

In the beginning ‘David’ stood ready to fight on the square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, as the sculptor himself insisted. This place used to serve as at he Florentine town hall. Identifying it as a symbol of strength, very soon the statue became well-known among the city’s citizens. Eventually the statue became the Florentine symbol itself.

Unfortunately the statue suffered and damaged much during the years. On the 26th of April Medici was leaving Florence. Out of one of the palace’s windows a bench was thrown. It got into the statue and damaged it much. The bench had hit David’s left arm and it and broke it into pieces. Later in 1543 three elements were found and Duke Cosimo ordered to replace them.

Speaking about more recent events it’s necessary to mention the year of 1991. A person damaged the left foot’s toes attacking the statue with a hammer. Not so long ago some experts decided to clean the statue. But the use of water only harmed the artefact. The last time it was washed in 1843. Now the statue permanently stands in Florentine Galleria Dell’ Accademia. Throughout the world there are many replicas made.
